Religious Education Registration
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) began in Rome, Italy in 1954, when Sofia Cavalletti, a Hebrew and Biblical scholar and Gianna Gobbi continued the work of Dr. Maria Montessori. The Catechesis takes place in a prepared classroom called the atrium, where Scripture is proclaimed, study of the great liturgical moments of the Church are celebrated and the traditions of our faith are experienced. This program is a Montessori-based, hands-on program. Each atrium session is divided into three sections. Small group lessons, individual work time and communal prayer lead the child at his or her own pace to the great discoveries of faith. Students in grade Kindergarten through 6th grade can participate in one of three levels of the CGS program. These classes are organized in mixed age groupings: Level 1 is for Kindergarten & First graders. Level 2 involves grades 2-4 and Level 3 includes the 5th and 6th graders.
